Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy

What can I expect from the first therapy session?

During our initial session, we will begin the counseling process by establishing safety in our therapeutic relationship and gaining a comprehensive understanding of you, including your relevant background, past experiences, and current situation. My focus will be on fostering safety and connection and providing you with the support you need. As we proceed, we will work together to define your treatment objectives and work towards the changes you desire in your life.

Are sessions in person or virtual?

I offer in person sessions in San Diego, California. My office is located in the neighborhood of Banker’s Hill. I also offer virtual sessions to anyone located in California.

How much does therapy cost?

  • $200 for a 50 minute Individual or Relationship therapy session

  • $250 for a 90 minute Individual or Relationship therapy session

I do offer sliding scale fees on a limited basis.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept health insurance. I am considered an out of network provider. I can give you a superbill to submit to your insurance when applicable. If you plan to submit a superbill to your health insurance I encourage you to call and ask a representative if your plan covers out of network mental health services.

What is a “Good Faith Estimate?”

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
